Campus
Cleanliness
Survey
A research survey examining how users' building usage patterns influence satisfaction with the cleanliness of U of T facilities
About the Study
This survey is part of a broader research initiative examining the economics of waste management at the University of Toronto. We study how information flows, incentive structures, and labour dynamics shape the quality of building maintenance and cleaning operations across campus. This specific survey focuses on building users: how your daily routines and patterns of campus occupancy influence your awareness of — and satisfaction with — the cleanliness of university facilities.

└────────────────┘What We're Investigating
This survey asks U of T building users about their day-to-day experiences with campus facilities. Specifically, we are interested in: Building usage patterns — How often do you visit particular buildings, and in what capacity (studying, working, dining, recreation)? Do heavier users notice cleanliness issues more or less than occasional visitors? Satisfaction & perception — Which aspects of facility maintenance are most salient to users? Are there systematic differences across building types, floors, or times of day? Reporting behaviour — When users notice a cleanliness problem, do they report it? What barriers exist? Understanding these patterns helps identify where communication between building users and facilities management breaks down.
